Can you sponsor a Compassion child?

WANTED: Sponsor
8-year-old Elbina in Bangladesh seeks loving individual to be her sponsor. Desires someone to write letters, send photos and be a life-long friend. Can promise letters, love and prayers in return.

No, Compassion assisted children have not resorted to advertising for a sponsor, but they are praying for one.

“My friends at the project write letters to their sponsors regularly; I want to do it too. They show me the reply of their sponsors and also their photos. Their sponsors love them so much. I want to be like the sponsored children. It will be wonderful when I have my sponsor. I am praying daily for a sponsor friend with whom I can have lots of fun.” —Elbina

Compassion Australia currently has 8000 children like Elbina waiting to be sponsored. Unfortunately, many have been waiting up to 12 months for a sponsor and are now each a 'Priority Child'.

Choosing to sponsor a child is more than choosing to give $44 a month toward adequate nutrition, education or healthcare. The foundation of Compassion's work is holistic child development, which means fostering not only the physical development of a child but their spiritual, social and emotional development as well. A sponsor's love and encouragement through letters, monetary gifts and prayer is essential to such development. And that is what choosing to sponsor a child is about: choosing to invest in a relationship that may change a life forever.

Fortunately, little Elbina has found someone to be her 'sponsor friend', but thousands of other children are still waiting ...
