Purple potatoes!

Yesterday we went to Sheffield with my parents.  They had come up to see The King and I the previous nght and we decided to go to Sheffield for morning tea. Well, Bruce decided - personally, I would have preferred to stay at home - but I didn't have to do anything except sit in the car so I suppose it wasn't too bad.  It just meant I didn't get the little jobs done that I normally do on Saturday. Disappointed

After viewing the muralfest murals we somehow ended up in the Sheffield veggie shed.  We had a look around and noticed some potatoes on the counter. Mum asked what variety they were and was told they were Sapphires. Apparently they are very much like Dutch Creams to cook.  When you cut them open they are purple inside, and when you cook them they remain purple!!! Surprised  The store owner said her children had turned their noses up at them on account of the colour but once they had got past that they ate them!

We bought some and cooked up some homemade chips.  And I must admit that just for a moment or two the colour was rather off-putting!  However, they tasted just like any other potato - delicious!
